Undergraduate Premier
Awards 2009-
Now in their ninth year, the Premier Awards are a range of Awards
which recognise the importance of patient safety.
As an undergraduate entrant you could
win up to £1,500
for submitting a project on risk management that you may have
already completed as part of your BDS studies!
Just submit a project or audit on any of the following areas to be
in with a chance of winning:
Infection Control
Health and Safety
Consent
Record Keeping
Teamworking and Skill mix, or
Ethics
The closing date for entries is
1 September, and is
open to all undergraduate BDS students.

The DENTSPLY Award
Would you like to represent
your dental school at the BDA/Dentsply Student Clinician Programme?
**You
could win a trip to Honolulu or a cash prize of £500!
The 32nd annual BDA/Dentsply Student
Clinician Programme will be taking place at the British Dental
Association. Each of the individual school winners can look forward
to the following:
Two nights accommodation at the centrally located 4*
London hotel for you and a friend.
Two exclusive invitations to the black tie BDA/Dentsply
Annual Dinner to be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel,
London.
£250 spending money.
A national winner will be selected following
the adjudication. He or she will be invited to present their project
on a non-competitive basis at the 150th Annual Session of
the American Dental Association from 1 to 5 October 2009, during an
all expenses paid trip to Honolulu, Hawaii as an honoured guest of
Dentsply international.
The runner up will receive a cash prize of
£500.
An additional prize of a specially commissioned
plaque is also awarded for professionalism and presentation skills.
The Student Clinician Programme recognises
excellence in undergraduate dental studies and includes work
undertaken during intercalated degrees. It gives you the opportunity
to present your work to three distinguished adjudicators and meet
leading figures from the dental profession.
STAGE ONE:
The first stage of the competition usually
takes the form of an internal competition held within each school*.
A school winner is then chosen by the BDA/Dentsply Student Clinician
Programme Representative and put forward to represent his or her
school at the national adjudication. Dr Allaker is the
representative for Barts and The London Dental School.
*
If a local
competition cannot be held, the BDA/Dentsply Student Clinician
Representative can nominate a student who has excelled through high
marks or merit.
STAGE TWO:
The national adjudication will take place on in
February of the competition year.
The adjudication panel will consist of a number
of high ranked individuals chosen from Dental schools.
Each entrant and a guest are invited to the
annual BDA/Dentsply Dinner, where the overall national winner will
be announced.
Entry Requirements and rules:
To enter you must be:
A clinical undergraduate dental/intercalated student.
A student member of the British or Irish Dental
Association.
Competition rules require:
That the project relates to any matter relevant to the
art and science of dentistry and may also include critical
appraisals of literature about specific clinical questions.
That the work should not previously have been
published or presented to a scientific body external to your dental
school.
The demonstrations should:
Be presented on either a tabletop or poster board.
Last no more than ten minutes and allow for a five
minute question and answer session with the adjudicators.
The demonstrations should not:
Display school names during judging.
Contain advertising or promotional materials, generic
or commercial names fore drugs.
Use heavy office equipment, patients or live models.
Entry is limited to one student per school.
Tables and tabletop display boards will be
provided at the venue. Exact dimensions will be provided by the BDA.
You are welcome to incorporate the latest
technology into your demonstration. However all equipment must be
provided by and is the responsibility of the entrant.
