Our school was opened in 1911- It is one of the oldest dental schools in the UK.
As a dental school we have developed over the past 100 years and are always in the process of continual improvement.
The student dental society was formed in 1912.
Every dental student is a member of the society which is run by a committee of 22 members, each assigned to fulfil a particular duty. The committee is elected by dental students each year and holds two meetings of DENTSOC and SSLC each month.
Our objectives:
- To be a bridge between dental students and staff at the dental school.
- To consider new ideas and maintain a continuous state of evolving and improving.
- Maintain professionalism within the society.
During your five years of study you will learn the finest techniques in dentistry which will equip you to become the best possible kind of dentist!
Hi, my name is Tejal and I'm the Dental Society's Vice President. My role involves liasing with students and staff to keep things Dental School running smoothly. I'll be working closely with Eva and the rest of the DentSoc team to ensure that all your opinions are heard. I have many ideas for events to bring the students within our dental school closer. In addition, I want to encourage more students to engage with the wider dental community and one way I plan on achieving this is, is by organising talks by external speakers. I think this will be a very good way for everyone to get to know more about dentally related topics outside the regular curriculum.
Since coming to Barts last year, I have heavily involved myself in various ways. I have been playing netball for Barts for the last two years, I was first year DQAC rep and participated in the National Smile Month Campaign in Tower Hamlets. This year I was part of the incredible BLAS show, I’ve been involved with the PASS mentoring scheme, assisted with dental interviews and recently helped organise the Summer Sizzle party at Kanaloa as part of the BLUZ campaign.
Taking part in these various ways has enabled me to get to know lots of medics and dentists in all years as well as many members of staff. I strongly believe in making the most of the opportunities available to us and I will actively encourage more and more people to realise this and get involved.
On a personal level, I believe that I would be able to take on this role and do it justice because anyone who knows me well will tell you that I am freakishly organised (Sad, but true!). I am dedicated, enthusiastic and really passionate about dentistry and Barts especially. I am good at listening and acting upon feedback. I would like to think of myself as approachable and I am committed to help bring greater success to our Dental Society.
I hope I have conveyed to you my genuine aspiration to be VP of The Best Dental Society in the world!
